Katoomba!

"Katoomba!"
Bless you.
It sounds like a sneeze, but Katoomba is also a tourist town outside of Sydney, at the edge of the Blue Mountains. Yes, I drove on the wrong side of the road - it's exhilarating! You should try it right now!
We drove for two hours and then checked into our hotel, the Carrington. This place is a real kick in the pants-a Victorian mansion at the highest point for miles (pardon, kilometers) around.

After a walk through the mansion and some "ooh's" and "ahh's" it was on to the "three sisters" and the cliffs of the Blue Mountains.

The three sisters in the foreground, the blue mountains in the background. They're called the blue mountains because of the blue haze from the eucalyptus trees. Fun fact: I'm allergic to eucalyptus.

After hiking around the cliff edge, checking out the lookouts (and knockoff designer clothes sported by the Chinese tourists) it was off to Gordon Falls.

Yea, it was a lot of stairs down and back up, but after Haleakala, it felt like nothing.

After our hike, it was off to our posh hotel for dinner and a nightcap. I think the wife had a Singapore Sling.

  1. I agree, the problem with traveling anywhere is all the bloody tourists when you get there...

  2. Great looking hotel! Interesting landscape, too. Glad the weather is cooperating.
